What is your measure of faith?
Matthew 9:28, “And when He had come into the house, the blind men came to Him. And Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” They said to Him “Yes, Lord.”
The important thing for us to notice is that after Jesus had asked these men whether they believed He was able to give them their sight, when He was performing the miracle He said to them, “According to your faith be it unto you.” We must not divorce this statement from our Lord’s question, for the two must go together, for while Christ is perfectly able to do certain things for us our faith must be operative if we are to prove His ability in our own lives. He is able to do certain wonderful things for us, but we must trust Him to do them, and the measure of our trust will determine the measure of our experience of His ability to help us.
A man fell off a cliff, but managed to grab a tree limb on the way down. The following conversation ensued:
"Is anyone up there?"
"I am here. I am the Lord. Do you believe me?"
"Yes, Lord, I believe. I really believe, but I can't hang on much longer."
"That's all right, if you really believe you have nothing to worry about. I will save you. Just let go of the branch."
A moment of pause, then: "Is anyone else up there?"
