As we approach a new year, we need to follow Mary’s example and minister faithfully to the Lord.
Mark 14:6, “But Jesus said, ‘Leave her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a beautiful thing for me.’” Mary had ministered to Jesus by anointing his head with oil. Jesus defended her for ministering to Him. As we approach a new year, we need to follow Mary’s example and minister faithfully to the Lord.
Minister to the Lord in Worship - The woman who anointed Jesus in Simon’s house was performing an act of worship. The elements in her worship need to be cultivated today. Her worship was:
A. Simple
B. Sincere
C. Spontaneous
D. Sacrificial
Ministry to the body of Christ - Paul, the Apostle, compares the church to a human body (1 Corinthians 12:13-25). This shows how closely related we are to one another. God wants us to build one another in faith. Ephesians 4:29, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”
Don’t be like that member of an orchestra who played the piccolo. Amid the thunder of the organ, and the roll of the drums, the player on the piccolo said to himself, “In all this din, my little instrument doesn’t matter,” and he ceased to play. Suddenly the great conductor threw up his arms and all was still. “Where is the piccolo?” he cried. God listens for our share in his orchestra no matter how small that share may be.
Ministry to the world - Evangelism is a ministry that Jesus wants all of us to be involved in. Jesus said that we should be witnesses for him in Jerusalem, Judea, and to the uttermost parts of the world (Acts 1:8).
On a Jacksonville, Florida beach, a man watched as on three different occasions the lifeguards rescued three different people from drowning. One man went by the main station to congratulate them on saving lives. When he walked into the station, he saw a sign, which read, “IF IN DOUBT, GO!” This ought to be written on the heart of every believer.
