Divine Purpose

Read my latest blog post and describe a time that God has provided for you.

I Kings 17:2-6, Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah: “Leave here, turn eastward and hide in the Kerith Ravine, east of the Jordan. You will drink from the brook, and I have ordered the ravens to feed you there.” So he did what the Lord had told him. He went to the Kerith Ravine, east of Jordan, and stayed there.  The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning and bread and meat in the evening, and he drank from the brook.”

The Lord wanted to guide Elijah and so He gave him explicit instructions.  How did God speak to Him?  We do not know, but we do know that He speaks to us through His Word (Psalm 119:105), etc.  What were the instructions God gave to Elijah?  Verse 3 tells us.  They were clear, unmistakable, precise, and demanded action.  The Lord's instruction involved a wonderful promise (v. 4).  "There" is the place of blessing, power, and provision.

Elijah was obedient to God's Word (v. 5).  "So he went…" suggests that Elijah's obedience was active, instant, complete, and unquestioning.  When Elijah obeyed the Lord, He fulfilled His promise (v. 6).  Here are the facts about the Divine supply.

1.  The source – God Himself

2.  The method – Miraculous

3.  The regularity – morning & evening

4.  The variety – bread and fish

5.  The sufficiency – There was enough until God's purpose was fulfilled.imselfHH
